When You Take Away The Sky

I watch the clouds
for I've lost the sight of sky
no horizon
no rush of sea
all I hear – is confusion
and the sound of the moon
which took away my sunrise
my sleep – and you –
do I have to ask
where is the colour blue
teardrops or rain
language or culture
it doesn't matter
when you take away the sky
then you take away – me –
and you.

A Crush Of Cold

An economy of mind
is a partisan of common fate
which fights for space
to quantify thoughts.

------------------------------
I collect her light
to suffer a gentle death
when gravity pulls from within
feasting on itself
all the while
the white light
conceals the space.
Yet here I am – within you
and I cannot seem – to reach you
tucked away
in your cocoon
with all these heated thoughts
but I still see you as you were
a birth….  surrounded in a darkness
tombstone thoughts
at the end of life –
ashes through a window seen
when a crush of cold….
turns to light.

Words Are An Instrument

Words are an instrument
like air
which plays my lungs
and makes…. my heart
find the beat.

If I have, no air
how can I explain –
unable to complain
about this half-life
this shadow
hanging low
like a solid stone
which darkens you
without a breath
then only a hollow sound –
is found.
But words are an instrument
like a guitar covered in blood
when all the strings are broken
there's nothing left –
but frets.

When you find your words
you'll find your breath –
and then your labour
has found a home.

Where Are The Candles

Where are the candles
I cannot see my way
for all these embedded wicks
are burnt -
each slender hope
worn away
which hides the light
in sediment -
dregs, at the end of day
these remnants
reminding me –
that night has come
and enlightenment
must wait –
till shed another day.

I Have A Rose

I have a rose
a single solitary rose
this garden
drawn upon a page
with no words written
on this unfertile ground
dry and stark as tumbleweed
flattened is my rose
this poorly drawn rose
in colours, which I dream
can I paint it, full of hope
so a friend can see it grow.

I have a rose
a single solitary rose
this garden
drawn upon a page
scribbled lines
with no words written
it's not about the pen
but the garden
and the rose.

I have a rose
a single solitary rose
is all I have to give
and I give it to a friend
a single solitary friend
I give my garden
I give my rose -
to a friend.

You're All I Got

When I woke up,
the night was still falling
trickling…. past me
I never seen the stars
but found the tripping stones
left wondering –
where is the sky
so I looked up
to see the clouds - my ceiling
and they're chipping… at the seams
where all the dreams –
are slipping through
and there's nothing –
that I can do.

When I woke up,
I yelled at her
the sky –
who are you to give up on me
because…..
you're all I got
and I've never,
given up on you.

Shadow In The Lake

A life – a thread
an understanding, left unsaid
a soul – confused and torn
like bark
from a now bare tree
where all the leaves are brittle
and the shadow in the lake
looks more like a wall
than a mirror.

I Am A Youth

I am a youth
a parrot by the sea
standing –
in shallow water deep
coloured wings and all
with a telescopic view.

I am a youth
a parody – perhaps
but not a travesty.

I am a youth
that see's the sun
and the parallel to you –
the day I shed my wings
I'll be a captain
sailing all the seas.

I am a youth
a parrot
a captain
I am a part of you
and all of me.

One day, I'll save the world
but today
I'll watch the sea.

Has Found Their Space

You hide yourself
beneath each grain of time
emotions…. all unfurled
limp of life -
tumbling through humanity
to lie amongst the shallow reeds
an unfair pool of genes
heredity or heretic
a Spartan, found within the sheep
sprouts of words once soiled –
now flowers bloom
to a steady stem,
where a petal is reborn
and given time -
has found their space.

I Am A Tree

When with her
I am a tree
leaves so full and bright
and when she speaks -
each word I savour
a richness to the fruit
But when she says my name
I always let it hang -
just a  moment longer
until it ripens in my mouth -
swallowing the sweetness
and the warmth.

When she is with me
I am a tree -
my leaves are full and bright
branches twitching
as I'm dancing….
in the wind.
