If I stood on top of tall,
throwing life into the wind,
would I be carried off to sea,
left scattered amongst the squalls.
Would I be washed and cleansed,
or set sail beyond the curvature -
of the lens; no mast to carry me,
nor sails full or free.
If I stood on top of tall,
beyond a stretch to see,
balanced on the edge,
willing it to fall; would I then be
looking past and beyond it all.
Left standing, a finger to the wind,
a current of the time, everything in
view, and everything is mine.
The only thing I need to do -
is to stand on top of tall.
i like the thought of throwing life into the wind..letting go...
ReplyDeletei think i may need to climb up on top of tall...that is a nice turn of phrase as well...
ReplyDeleteWhat a great title! I read it aloud and I love the way the words feel. Nice to find you through oneshot.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Diana. Superb title that—to me it acts as a great metaphor for looking at life beyond the mundane, peering into the unknown. Great concept and excellent poetry, David
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this. It has the element that appeals to young and old.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with One Shot
A good one shot... and the lines ...
ReplyDelete'Would I be washed and cleansed,

of the lens; no mast to carry me,
nor sails full or free.'
got me thinking beyond... I enjoyed it.

A bit of E. Dickinson in the fine rhetoric and your exposition. You wind the metaphor through your stanzas with great variety. -- Brendan
ReplyDeleteI can see for miles and miles...
ReplyDeleteUplifting piece, David! :)
David, I like this poem a lot. It's like something I would write. To be free. To let go. The great paradox is to stand tall in our incarnation, make a courageous call and then dissolve into the greater reality. The way of the peaceful warrior.
ReplyDeleteWell done.
